H-E-B Big League Weekend is an annual two-game Major League Baseball spring training exhibition hosted at the iconic Alamodome just minutes from the Towers of America and Alteza Residences above the Grand Hyatt in downtown San Antonio. The event was created through a partnership with Nolan Ryan, the Texas Rangers, Ryan Sanders Baseball, the San Antonio Missions and the city of San Antonio. In addition to the two games each year, there are several other events surrounding the weekend that make it special for any baseball fan.
Turning the Alamodome into a baseball facility is no easy task. Ryan Sanders Baseball collaborates with AstroTurf to build a 133,000 square-foot custom field for the Alamodome floor. In addition to the turf, 300 cubic yards of dirt is brought in each year for the base around the infield. Custom dugouts, bullpens, netting and walls are also installed.
In its first three years the event has welcomed over 170,000 baseball fans to this unique setting in the Alamo City. For downtown residents, it’s another weekend packed with fun-filled sports action. With the Alamodome in their sights, residents of Alteza also enjoy the non-stop events taking place throughout the year.
The 2016 edition of H-E-B Big League Weekend features the World Series Champion Kansas City Royals vs. the American League West Division Champion Texas Rangers on March 18 (7PM) and March 19 (2PM). Tickets are still available, click here for ticket details..
