Bliss restaurant was named as one of the country’s 100 Best Restaurants for Foodies by the online reservations site OpenTable. The site analyzed some 5 million reviews throughout the country to create the list, and Bliss was the only San Antonio restaurant to receive the honor and one of four in Texas. Ballet San Antonio Kicks off 2016-17 season with ‘Don Quixote’
Ballet San Antonio brings chivalry, honor and romance to the stage this fall, kicking-off their 2016-2017 season with a San Antonio premiere of “Don Quixote,” at The Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, Oct. 14-16 in the H-E-B Performance Hall. “Don Quixote” weaves a splendid tapestry of love, illusion and daring adventure. Gypsies, matadors, and windmills result in a plethora of excitement, humor and family fun. The ballet is beloved for its comedic flourishes, its larger-than-life characters, and its thrilling bravura dancing. “Don Quixote” opens with performances at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14; 2p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15; and 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 16. Alamo Area MPO to Host Bike Night in Southtown
Avid bike riders and cycling enthusiasts will have the opportunity to learn more about ongoing local initiatives to evolve San Antonio into a more bike-friendly city at Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (AAMPO)’s Bike Night.
The gathering will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at the Lone Star Brewery at 600 Lone Star Blvd. If it rains, the event will be moved to the Roosevelt Park Clubhouse at 331 Roosevelt Ave. The event will provide information and answer questions about various bike-related initiatives, as well as several development and infrastructure projects going on in the city. Attendees can come and go during this portion of the event, which will also feature light refreshments. Following the hour-long exhibition time, AAMPO will hold its Bicycle Mobility Advisory Committee meeting at 6 p.m.
Casa Azul in Southtown Now Open
Casa Azul, a new Frida Kahlo-inspired restaurant in Southtown, is now open. Menu items include an appetizer trio called 3 Amigos with guacamole, chile con queso and roasted tomato salsa; mini tacos and tortas featuring carne asada, chicken mole carnitas, shredded chicken, as well as a torta ahogada, the Jalisco torta that’s topped with a spicy tomato sauce. It also offers a Sunday brunch from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with meni items including menudo, a barbacoa torta and a chorizo and egg torta. The restaurant is named after Kahlo’s famous home in the Coyoacán neighborhood in Mexico City. Casa Azul is at 1036 S. Alamo St., 210-451-9393
Lone Star Brewery Project gets First Two Tenants
A Cinemark movie theater and bowling alley. The partnership behind the Lone Star Brewery revitalization project snagged its first two tenants Tuesday as developers aim to remake the long-vacant plant into an food and entertainment complex fashioned after the Pearl. Deals were inked on Tuesday with Plano-based Cinemark Holdings Inc. for a 34,500-square-foot movie theater with 10 auditoriums and Punch Bowl Social for a 25,000-square-foot entertainment complex that includes food, drinks, bowling and vintage arcade games at the long-defunct site in Southtown — slated to open in late 2018.
